BUILT IN 1887
Initially built to power the hotel, the Power Plant also provided electricity to the entire island of Coronado until service was established with SDG&E in 1922. In 1889, The Del was the largest building powered by electricity outside of New York City and the first on the West Coast. A utility tunnel connects the power plant to the historic hotel.
Completed in summer 2020, the mezzanine level of the power plant was extended to its original depth and renovated to serve as a co-work lounge and meeting space for groups. The conference room features a one-of-a-kind conference table crafted from reclaimed wood beams from the circa 1910 industrial building, removed during the Master Plan build-out.
Starting in early 2021, companies and groups will be able to reserve these unique co-working and meeting spaces within the Power Plant while on property.
